Preparation

Well, if you look at the timestamp on this post you’ll see that I’m writing this at 3:29am on Friday morning. I’m getting the sneaking suspicion that God is preparing me for fatherhood. Let me recap my previous nights for you:

Wednesday night / Thursday morning: I wake up at 4:30am to find out that my wife has apparently conclusively determined that her body can’t handle jalepenos while she’s pregnant. I stay up with her in between puking sessions and then take a quick “cat nap” before I have to wake up at 5:30am for Ironman.

Thursday night / Friday morning: My dog Chloe decides that it is playtime at 3:00am by parading around our room in hopes that we’ll get out of bed. When that doesn’t work she resorts to making this high-pitch whining noise which I’m not even sure how she makes. I’ve now determined this to be one of the few noises MORE annoying than my alarm clock. Impressive. When that backfires on her and we lock her in her crate she responds by throwing up inside and outside of it. We then get up and take her out to go to the bathroom because evidently she is on some time schedule that we aren’t keeping up with.

And the encouraging thing about all this? People keep telling me that I have till mid-november to enjoy my sleep. So until then, here’s to preparation.

Movie Review – Smart People

I rented a movie last night that had escaped my radar when it came out. I never heard of it before but was sold by the cover and the cast of actors. And it did not disappoint.

It was the movie “Smart People” and I found it artistically made, thought provoking, and encouraging. The movie is about a self-absorbed college professor who realizes that the world doesn’t revolve around him. Obviously, this is a subject that myself and…dare I say, all of us deal with daily. I am constantly fighting my own selfishness and this movie was encouraging to see a person who works at being more selfless. The acting is great, the character development is creative and artistic, and the overall message is very believable and encouraging. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

It is rated R so use caution if you choose to watch it. Click here to see the movie trailer.

Jeremy Through The Decades

Thanks to my friend John, I found an amazing website where you can see what your yearbook picture would look like for any given year. Here is what I’d look like through the decades…

Injustice at the Olympics – Pt. 2

My rant continues…

Injustice at the Olympics

So I’m about to write one of the most vulnerable posts ever. I have been watching a lot of the Olympics lately. Including women’s gymnastics. (Insert your laughter here…unless of course, you have been watching it too). And there have been a few unsettling things.

  1. How can China make up ages for girls who are like 9 years old? Seriously, we are supposed to believe that they are all 16?
  2. The jacked-up scoring system. Anybody watch Nastia get silver even though she tied a Chinese girl? Poor Bela Karolyi. I think he is on the verge of a repeated heart-attack as he has to watch what is happening.

So I’m seriously laying in bed right now and I’m surprisingly bothered by what I saw tonight. It reeks of unfairness and injustice. Why is nobody doing anything about this?

Then that I realized that God could probably care less about who gets which medal and that there are no end to the things that are going on worldwide that are bothering Him much more than I feel right now. Yet I’m not really thinking of any of that. And honestly, I can’t remember the last time I laid in bed pissed off about something like that either. God reminded me of Revelation 6:9-11

“When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, ‘How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?’ Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants and brothers and sisters were killed just as they had been.”

Talk about injustice. Here I am bothered by women’s gymnastics. So I realize that I still have a ways to go until my heart lines up with Jesus’ heart. But I pray that moments like these would push me to care more and more about the things that God cares about.

Sweet Mac Software

Image and video hosting by TinyPicThis is for all my Mac friends out there. I’ve come across a few FREE programs that are really sweet and have enhanced my Mac experience. Here are some of my favorites that I would recommend:

  • Warp (makes it so you can switch between Spaces in Leopard by dragging your cursor to the edge of the screen) download it here
  • Quicksilver (access any file or program on your computer with a quick command shortcut) download it here
  • Breakaway (makes it so your speakers don’t play audio when your headphones accidentally get unplugged. This can help you save-face at Starbucks so that people don’t have to discover your secret love for the Jonas Brothers) download it here
  • Camino (this is my favorite web browser. it looks more like mac software than Firefox and runs well) download it here
  • Smart Sleep (you can better control the settings of how your laptop sleeps and acts on low battery) download it here
  • Time Machine Editor (allows you to control and change the increments of how often TimeMachine backs up your data) download it here
